HEAR/ BREAKING BREAD

When we gather for holidays most of our attention is turned toward food. A regular occurring herb biscuit or a sacred traditional lime jell-0 salad are the gateways of childhood memories and Christmas past. It’s not so much the dish itself but the stories and banter that come with it. Teasing the new in-laws of their aversions and reminding each other about ‘that one summer when.’ Asking just one question about these traditional dishes can flood a whole table of conversation and lead the rest of the meal. So this holiday instead of focusing on the food, I am going to focus on the listening. Because behind most dishes is a story.
